Fuel Over-spill

Filling up today - easing up on the pressure as I approached what I thought the car would take - the pistol failed to cut out and I experienced an over-spill of diesel dumping a litre or so on the forecourt floor. 

This is the second time this has happened (at different stations) and I wonder if anyone else has experienced this with their CX-5?  I should perhaps add that this has never happened with any other vehicle that I have owned in the past.

I'm wondering is it the shape of the tank or filling neck that is the cause of this or could it be that the cut-out switch on the pistol itself needs a certain pressure which isn't attained when the pistol grip itself isn't fully gripped i.e. providing maximum output.

Has happened to me once, now I fill it to the first 'click' of the nozzle rather than to the brim.

No overspill with either cx-5, but i do ease of the trigger when i expect the tank is near full, then i either stop on the first click or dribble some some in to get a nice round £ figure, that just an old habit from paying cash, or doing a part fill as i often just put £40 in.

It is quite a narrow filler pipe. I sprayed mine with Tetroseal recently as they are known to corrode through on some makes. I don't remember it blowing back though. Maybe it's because I'm too tight to risk spelling it.

I had this once on mine,   luckily only a very small amount.   Was the same as you said and just like the pump auto cut off didn't work.  Have been more careful since and all OK.   Never had it before on any other vehicle.
