Wing mirror not unfolding
« on: July 14, 2016, 10:48:24 pm »
Just picked my CX 5, been looking for one for a while found a nice 2013 Sport Nav locally.
Did all the normal checks when on test drive, pressed as many buttons as possible etc. On way home from the shop we parked up and I used the folding mirrors and all looked well.

On returning to the car only the drivers side unfolded!! Had a little play and will only move about an inch. Motor turns a little as far as I can hear but nothing else.

Had a quick look and seen a couple of threads on failed mirrors but unsure if these were for complete dead units.

Going to have to call the dealer in the morning to advise/complain and wait to see what excuse they use not to want to look at it.

Wasn't a main dealer so might have to take my chances. Not sure it 35 mins is a record for something going wrong?

Update-

Took her back to the dealer and they have advised that motor in the mirror has failed and will order a replacement to be fitted this week. No if, buts, or maybes.

Faith in good service is restored. They even looked if they had another CX 5 in stock that they could take a mirror to replace mine for.

All good hopefully

Result.  :)

Ask them for the old one just in case you can salvage any spares in the future.
I have my old one, but i did have to pay for the replacement.

I think the mirror might be a weak spot.  I had one fail on a new CX-3 which was cured with a new one.

My last cx5 about 2.25 years old had the folding mirror operate at least 4 times every time it was taken out of the garage, which was on average 5 times a week.

So around 2340 operations.

Agree with that, I still have the one that I'd stripped down for a previous post. The fact that you said that you could hear the motor working, makes me suspect that its not the motor, but the small spur gear which is driven by the motor worm. Would be quite interested to know if its the same fault. A word of warning - its almost impossible to get the glass out without breaking it!
