Dash Rattle

I have developed a loud rattle from where the dash meets the windscreen sort of directly in front of the drivers seat when the car is cold. Anyone else experienced this?

Rattles were common on early cars, assuming you have a 2013 car.

I've read that several owners have reported more or less the same thing and following long scratching of hair by the workshop the cause was found to be bolts that were not tightened with sufficient torque during assembly (3 on each side).

Oh dear we had this sort of problem, turned out to be a loose lighting loom, even though it sounded a little metallic in sound, took 3 days  for the mechanic to crack it, and was still under warranty. Please post the end outcome, thanks for the input Deeps I will be double checking that in daylight

I'm pretty sure my rattle is coming from inside the car not the engine bay because if I wedge my hand between the dash and the window it stops.

Hi all, first time poster. I have my new CX-5 for 6 months now and straight up, it is a fantastic car!

My only irritation is this really annoying rattle, like a knocking noise, from the dash edge near the driver’s speaker/A-pillar/windscreen when the outside temperature is cold. I can stop it by pressing on the speaker grille or putting a wedge from the top side between the dash edge and the windscreen. The rattle disappears when the car warms up. What I have done during the winter/spring months so far:

•   Removed the A-pillar trim, speaker grille and speaker altogether but the rattle persisted.
•   Placed a wedge between the dash and windscreen from the underside of the dash edge through the speaker opening so that it is not visible.
•   Placed another wedge between the dash and the A-pillar.
•   Removed the cowl panel in engine bay, placed felt pads under bolt mounts and re-fitted securely.
•   When the cowl grille was off, discovered 1 of the 2 bolts that secures the dash to the firewall from the engine side was quite loose, re-tightened.

This morning was cold again for the first time in a while … and it’s still there!!!

Wondering has anybody actually fixed this rattle, either themselves or their dealer? Mazda must surely be aware of this, they have issued a number of past TSB’s in this general area but new CX-5’s like mine still have the problem.

There is a TSB for a rattle where the dash meets the screen but I thought yours might have had the production change. It would be worth asking a dealer.

Hi, I have had the rattle in the dash . It goes away when the car warms up. Took it to my local Mazda dealer, told him all about it, he knew of the problem and fixed it. He said it was the speakers  I,don't know any better, but it doesn't rattle now.

Maybe this is the answer to my post last year. When I mentioned the problem to my dealer they said they had no knowledge of any problem with dashboards.............and I would need to book it in for a day to investigate the problem - which is inconvenient to say the least! Just another reason why I am changing the car tomorrow
