2012 CX5 with Tomtom Live
« on: December 13, 2017, 06:29:09 pm »
Hi All, we have had our 2012 CX5 for about a year now and it has been fantastic apart from the sat nav/radio which isnt great. The maps seem a bit outdated, there is no traffic calculations on the sat nav and no DAB radio. Is there anything anyone can suggest? Ive had a look through the forums but cant find anyhthig much although sorry if this has been covered before. Cheers

Welcome to the site. You need to update the maps and traffic cameras online on your Sd card.

Is there no way of getting live updates though? I saw something about tomtom live in the manual but cant find anything about it in the menus? I have to say that I prefer the £200 android unit I have fitted to my van, can do a lot more with it.

I've never used the Live service, but I wonder if it only gives you 'live' traffic info etc rather than automatically updating the maps. I do it manually with the SD card in the home PC and it takes a good long time so I can't imagine it would be very effective trying to do it in-car.

TomTom do offer a live system, but you have to buy a subscription, which is (or was) separate for the mapping updates. I used it for three years, it was a lot better that the current MZD system.

I just updated my TomTom on my 2013 CX5. Map updates for 1 year £57.50 and Live traffic £55.00. You need to register with TomTom.
I don't need Live where I live and it doesn't work anyway. I paid for both updates as I was planning a long run in England.
Only problem was the Live update took 3 days to arrive (it automatically connects to the SatNav) so it only worked on my return journey.
I have found the system works really well. If it knows of a problem it offers to change the route and quickly updates. If you miss a turn accidentally or deliberately it quickly works out how to get back to the correct route.
Turning motorways off when you have time to spare provides interesting routes.
Only complaint is their support has gone downhill lately.

The Tom Tom Sat nav is 100%  better than the MZD system .  my first cx-5 with paid tom tom traffic and cameras £49 a year was fantastic with traffic and road work cameras as well I would swap my 2017 sat nave for the tom tom any day but keep the music system as is far better than the old.
