Battery on its last legs, suggested replacements?
« on: January 11, 2024, 10:02:00 am »
Folks,

Looks like my battery is on its last legs.  Interesting search results when you try to find a replacement.

2.2 Diesel with start stop  2015 model

Anybody replaced theirs?

I know I need a EFB or similar but not a straight forward choice of battery.

Thanks in advance

Martin

I gave up in the end......

Web pages were suggesting incorrect batteries, non start stop, too small etc... even when I put in the correct license plate.

Given the very restrictive location, battery cover etc... I got one from my local Mazda dealer.....

Price wasn't too crazy either......

If you don’t mind me asking, what brand/version did you end up getting?

Exide EL954 from The Battery Group £115 a few months ago works a treat

Did either of you get your batteries coded to the car, so alternator knows you have a new battery, and sends out lower voltage for charging?

I didn't  everything just worked.
Read about supposedly needing to code it in but never found guidance on how to do it.
I think if you can swap hem over within a few minutes most settings are retained.
Just for interest this cars battery did 5 years and my previous 2013 cx5 bought at 5 1/2 yesrs had a newish battery fitted.

You need a sophisticated diagnostic tool to re code battery; perhaps when car next in for service
you could get garage to do it. As I understand it, as battery ages +capacity reduces, the BCM will get the alternator to send out a higher charge voltage.
This isn't healthy for new battery.

Although this is true of recent BMW, Mercedes and VAG  group models and some American makes I have found no reference to Mazda or other Japanese  makes. But I stand to be corrected.
