Connected Services - Fuel Prices
« on: December 14, 2015, 03:28:11 pm »
I've got the connected services set up on the Nav system and it provides weather and traffic fine.

But whenever I look for fuel prices it always does a scan and then comes back with 'no items'. I've tried it over several days and in places where there are very nearly garages - but always get 'no items'.

Be interested in anyone who has this working.

On the rare occasions when I had mine working (after "forcing" the hotspot to work), I had the same a few times. It has worked a couple of times, but only came up with BP fuel prices, none of which were that near to where I was at the time. There were a lot of stations which I knew were closer that weren't listed. Having my doubts as to its usefulness :-\

If my phone connects it will connect to the mobile hotspot, but i get no weather or fuel, but strangely i get traffic even if the phone does not connect??

Hot spot setup on my HTC is "settings" put data "on" and i think wifi of.
select "more" in "settings", then "mobile network sharing".

Once in that you have a option of a "portable wifi hotspot," select this to on.
Problem is all phones can be different to set up.

Yesterday phone wouldn't connect at all, just said "unknown error"
So i have 3 faults.

1/ phone connects when it likes.
2/ when it does not all the wifi functions work
3/ sometimes phone fails to connect and i get unknown error, or phone timed out.

That can happen to me if it connects for a while and then disconnects, that's with a Nokia

Perhaps force is the wrong word. Providing the car wi-fi is on, it detects the phones wi-fi hotspot (as it does any other fixed wi-fi networks nearby). It doesn't automatically connect as it should though. I have to enter the password into the car every time to make it work; for some reason it won't remember this and I have to repeat the process every time.

That'll be because you bought a manual whereas I bought the automatic ;-)

For whatever reason, my phone connects every time (Samsung S6 and v56 of firmware on the infotainment system).

You say it connects every time, is that just to send-receive calls or does it include Hotspot-Tethering for the live traffic ?

Both.  So long as I remember, I switch on (1) Mobile data (2) Mobile hot-spot and (2) Bluetooth as I leave the house / office and it all connects up fine.  The little symbols (often covered by the navigation top line bar) show the wifi strength, blue-tooth and battery life.

Regarding fuel prices on the infotainment system, it has not worked since I took delivery of my new SEL Nav last September. Like others, I have little time for the navigation system, particularly since it relies solely on your mobile phone signal for live traffic updates and therefore using my data allowance to enable Mazda to provide live traffic and weather updates. I am in regular discussion with my garage about a number of issues including the problems of connecting to a wifi hotspot on my mobile (Samsung S4 mini). Phone works fine for calls and texts, DAB radio good, but the SAt Nav system is a real issue!!

I spoke to Mazda Customer Services today.  Fuel Prices is meant to work in the UK as advertised as part of Connected Services.

They said that the technical team advised that a number of problems had been resolved with the latest update to the firmware and that I should get a dealer (they offered to arrange this) to move me to v56.00.511A.

If anyone has moved to this version and has connected services, I'd be interested if Fuel Prices is working.

Anyone still having this issue? Solved by...On the map page scroll to the RH button and select Settings. Scroll to the 'connected settings' at the foot of the list and on the next page scroll to fuel prices half way down. Deselect 'premium' and tick normal (or standard - I'm writing from memory) and then go back to the fuel price search and all should be good. You'll have to do this every time however, as I haven't found a way to save these settings and Mazda have not responded to any of my e-mails.
Hope this helps.

The connected services maybe only as good as the information input at source. The fuel prices seem to show BP and Shell only.

As for the traffic, updates aren't quick enough and only seem to show issues in a general area rather than a specific location.

I no longer have the connected services. Having complained repeatedly to Mazda over the hotspot issue, they gave me a full refund for the service subscription. If I go anywhere now where traffic holdups may be an issue, or I want info related to that, I use Waze.
