That's a shame Richard, I was worried when I noticed the difference in your pic, I was giving it some thought just a few hours ago, I was thinking of lighting actually being in the cup holders what do you think? Good luck

That's possible as at least the whole centre console is removable so could be added out of the car.

This best shows the differences between the UK and JDM overhead consoles

The insert containing the LED - UK left, JDM right and the LED itself

I could use a lot of practise with the Dremel! I'll call this a test fit :) I wired it to a 12v battery and held it up in the car, it gives a nice gentle glow over the centre console without being too distracting but I'll reserve judgement until I've fitted it properly.

I'm really interested in the Japanese accessories  catalogue how do I get to have a look at it.

This might be it:

http://www2.mazda.co.jp/accessories/web_cat/cx-5/sp.html

And there's some of the parts here (use Chrome browser to translate):

Yes, that's the Mazda Japan accessories PDF that I found the ambient light in. I bought from tenso.com which allows buying from various Japanese online retailers and also used buyee which is an international shipping service which tenso recommend/are affiliated with.

Total cost including 2-day air mail was £90 which is pretty steep considering I've only ended up using the loom and LED from it but at least I know it's all OEM(ish)!

Were there any customs charges?

Just to let you all know, there is a new board available called Modification Projects  here   http://mazdacx5forums.co.uk/index.php?board=56.0

There are of course sections for Visual Modifications and Interior modifications already available.

But if you are considering a dramatic modification project, please do share it with us in this specially created section.

Exhaust tips fitted (from Aliexpress, around £26 and available in plain silver or with blue/burnt ends. Made from 304 Stainless Steel (according to the ad!)

They have a subtle 'Mazdaspeed' logo etched onto the top edge which I'd rather not have given the choice but I couldn't find any that didn't. Perhaps when I fit alloy pedals I'll find some with the same logo.

...not so subtle unlike the logo! I really like them though, they look befitting of a Sport model and match my aim of an enhanced OEM look. Hopefully being stainless they'll last a while.

I've never felt happy with any of the more common methods of attaching extension mirrors for use when towing the caravan. Although somewhat expensive, I bit the bullet and ordered the Spezialspiegel (Special Mirrors) manufactured by EMUK article No. 100331. The mirrors when supplied painted in car colour does cost extra of course but in my opinion these mirrors which have a rubber backing so that contact with the car mirror is non-damaging are really the dogs whatsits. I have shortened the arms by a few centimetres because my caravan is only 210cm wide whereas the full length as supplied would of course be more suitable for much wider caravans. They are absolutely waggle-free and secure to the original car mirrors as though they were glued on. Excellent stuff imho.

I picked up my car today and took out the dealership sticker out the back window, looks more tidy now, will give it a quick clean tomorrow and prepare my list for the mammoth detailing session it will receive eventually

I normally use a very small amount of neat IPA and that removes the excess glue quite easily, also cleans the glass well and flashes off quickly

Today I have given all four door window strips a good clean using various wet wipes, over the years a build up of a green algae has formed, also at the top of the tail gate when it's open, very visible when the car is white, whilst this was ongoing a passing teenager commented on how good the car looked and asked if it was the 2016 model. I was a little chuffed to say the least:)
