Technology  -  self driving cars, cars with internet connection, cars with safety self breaking systems, lane control systems, self parking systems.....you name it it's there.
Apart from connection for dash cam which is still connected via meters and meters of dangling cables looking for, now nonexistent, lighter socket.
How daft is that!?

Its a daft comment really.  In the first place, there is no need for any dangling cables if they are fitted properly.  The problem with fitting dash cams is that too many do good-ing busybody’s think that they violate privacy and it is a big brother device.  Don’t forget, when they are fitted as standard, they could be downloaded by the police and while that is a possibility, they never will be.

I agree losing the power socket in the console is going backwards, IMO.
However i've got round that by running an extension to the centre console from the hidden power socket in armrest, why they think a location in an enclosed area is an improvement i'm not sure, as i've found no use for it.

I've used the socket in the console to show my voltmeter held in place with double sided tape.

This is how the front cam looks when I started the power lead inside the console box.  Its not a brilliant picture but actually, the charging light illuminates the box with a nice red glow;

.....and then terminated at the back of the mirror via the radar sensor enclosure;

The rear camera starts in the boot;

.....goes up through the D pillar, through the rubber trunking to the hatch which had to be stripped;

.....then finished at the rear window.  It can hardly be seen from the front but notice it is positioned within the sweep of the rear wiper;

While I was pulling things to bits I ran the lightning cable for my phone  from the front of the console under the trim;

drilled a hole which can always be recovered with the little rubber mat and made a closure flap to stop the wire falling out;

So I can position the phone inside the holder;
