Don't the USA versions use Adblue?

Quite possibly, that would be my suspicion. The dealer said he hoped that was the case, it might cure the issues they are currently having with coking up of engines.

So why not just say its for Adblue at a later date? "No current plans to use this space" is a pretty ridiculous answer, really. It would be interesting to pull the interior panel off and see whats behind it?

I can tell you it will be Ad Blu as Mazda have introduced a Mazda 6 with ad blu which I believe is called the type 2, so the rest of the Skyactiv engined vehicles will follow suite.

It is for adblue. All the forthcoming diesels will have it. That’s why the spec sheet says single tailpipe because the adblue tank goes alongside it.

Urea tank as discussed.  I don’t think Mazda are being evasive, it’s just not relevant yet. The urea or adblue as you call it is objected into the exhaust. It won’t stop inlet valve fouling.

The tank Urea tank location looks interesting by creating a possible conflict with any towbar fitting. Difficult to be say for sure but I trust the engineers would have thought of that.

It would also be nice, considering the relatively low number of CX-5 diesels when compared to say VW, that current vehicles could be retro fitted. Talking to my dealer yesterday he agreed, but wouldn't be precise, when I stated that in-house diesel sales must have hit rock bottom possibly a fall off in the region of 40%. I was left with the distinct feeling that 40% was a very conservative figure and that actual fall off in diesel sales was much higher. He also stated, although in general terms because I didn't exactly ask what my 3-year old vehicle would be worth in trade-in value, that the dealership wouldn't accept it as trade-in bearing in mind what I've just said regarding sales figures.

Question really for BigAl and team, is the 'Inlet Valve' fowling related to the MAP sensor being clogged. I have just been reimbursed for the considerable cost of having this replaced with 6 hours labour. This was the the prompt response to my complaint email to Mazda UK. Considerably more than half my mileage (now 50,000) is Motorway. I have not had DPF concerns or rising oil levels, so was surprised by the unexpected loss of power.

These fouling issues come from the use of direct injection of fuel into the combustion chamber.  Earlier vehicles used to inject into the inlet manifold and the mixture of fuel and air kept the inlet valves clean but as direct injection effectively bypasses them, they can become quite grubby.  Vapours from the crank case (this is caused by some of the combustion pressure getting past the pistons) are recirculated into the inlet system. Its this stuff that gets on the inlet valves.  If the sensor you had changed is inboard of the recirculating pipe, it will be effected.  I can’t just access the tech site to look but I will later in the week.
