Dashcam power supply in rearview mirror?
« on: December 17, 2017, 06:57:09 pm »
There's been a lot of dsicussion on the forum about dashcams, but all seem to want to run the power supply from under the dash somewhere.  Is there not an useable ignition controlled supply in the rear view mirror housing?  Or this all just too risky to touch?

If there is a supply within the mirror, can someone give detailed directions as to which terminal etc?

Thanks

I don’t know if there’s an ignition controlled feed in the rear view mirror housing but I power-my dashcam from the fuse box in the passenger footwell. It was pretty easy to tuck a cable under the front of the headlining at the top of the windscreen, behind the A pillar trim and into the fuse box.

I did the same. You just need some piggy-back fuse taps to plug into the block. I needed two for mine as I have a power control unit that uses a switched and non switched supply to power the camera in parking mode.

Thanks, I think I'll leave the mirror alone and aim for a connection in the fusebox.
