Nav and wi-fi hotspot firmware update
« on: September 08, 2015, 04:44:59 pm »
I know this has been discussed elsewhere, but it's on an unrelated thread so have started a new one specifically for this...

I've been told today by the dealer that the firmware update mentioned (V56) isn't one approved for the CX5. They inferred that it's the same problem but that an update is currently being prepared for the CX5 by Mazda. They promised to contact all affected owners on their books when it is ready.

Quite possible I guess.   But manufacturers take so long to get new software releases issued (and then the difficulty of getting it applied) that I've jumped the gun with the V56 no doubt.  Nonetheless so far it's better than the v51 the car came with which rebooted twice in the first couple of days.

Be good to keep a thread like this open so we can keep an eye open for an official release.

BREAKING  NEWS (and good news I hope)!
My CX-5 has just arrived at the dealership and is about to go through PDI for collection - all being well - later this week.
While getting paperwork for the insurance cover and registration etc. completed, I asked about the v56 firmware update.  I was told that mine would have the v51 version from the factory.
A specialist came from the workshop and checked their online support system and ...... he confirmed that the update is now available for the UK (was not there earlier today!!) and that they will upgrade my vehicle as part of the preparation work.
 :)

Great news on all fronts then.  When you've got the time, can you update us with the exact version number of the software (somewhere in settings).  I'm using EU_56.00.210 but I've heard there is a 56.00.230 out now.  Thanks.

This is just for the new model, not the previous Tom Tom unit is that right?

I've not heard from the dealer yet, but I queried this on Mazdas Facebook page. They replied that it had been released this week. Will give them a call when I get time.

This echos what I have been told too.  My car was in last week for a software update and to check the wifi not connecting.  Sat with them for 8 hours to be told that they haven't updated the software but a new version was due any day and that a new wifi module had been ordered and the new module and the new software would be done in a single visit in a week or two.  Fingers crossed it's soon as I haven't fitted the maxchip tuner box I bought yet as I would have to strip it back out before going into the workshop.

So collected my CX-5 this afternoon, salesman did the "show-and-tell" routine as part of the handover.  I asked about the firmware upgrade and after a bit of hit and miss fumbling found the right area.  Surprise, surprise it was still V51 >:(.
Apparently - don't know if it was just my dealership - and I'm not sure if I totally buy the explanation, it was due to the specific version or the dealers kit and could not be done for today!
So booked to get it in on Tuesday for them to sort it.  Just have to wait and see what happens.

Not at all surprised by this. One thing I have found in over 3 years of ownership, is that Mazda UK are pretty poor at communication with their customers. I believe the same situation applies between them and their dealers. To repeat what I've said before, the best way to get an answer from them is to embarrass them on social media.

Ho, Hum, .............. I'm apparently the first my dealership will be updating to this firmware level = V56, so I suppose I am NOT surprised things are not going smoothly!
The file is about 2Gb and after 1 hour yesterday - why, oh why had they not downloaded it prior to my appointment - I was told it was going to take some time and they will call me once it is on a USB stick locally and ready to upload into the car. ???

Mine shipped with this version last Tuesday.

I think it still has some issues

SUCCESS!!
The new firmware was installed yesterday and at first glance seems to have resolved the multiple issues identified by other owners - early days but will be keeping a close eye out for any problems.  Got a couple of trips shortly visiting family and friends, so will be good to give it a proper check then.  Dealer staff are keen to get feedback - they've had good reports from other garages, but I was their first = Milton Keynes.

Deepjoy22, the release version I've got is OS Version 56.00.230 EU N with Music Database 00.05.000

Had mine updated on Friday, so far no drop out on the satnav. Wifi hotspot worked OK all the way back to the office but then wouldn't connect later on in the day again. Think this is one area where the new model is worse than the old one. At least the built in GSM just worked in that, no having to remember to turn the hotspot on, no having to repeatedly enter pass codes.

Updated firmware seems to be behaving well, none of the previously reported issues . dropouts etc..  Hotspot connection and Bluetooth links both worked faultlessly, codes only had to be input on initial setup (Mobile = Sony Xperia Z2).
Only thing I've noticed so far (this weekend) was system twice - on both outbound & return journeys - went to "navigation system loading", but when it loaded seconds later it returned to the current route and resumed from where it left off, so no real problem.
A little niggle, just had to hide the menu bar after system resumed!
