Heated Wing Mirrors

I've searched high and low in the manual in an attempt to discover how one activates the heating elements in the wing mirrors but to no avail. Only by reading through other posts in this section on the subject of folding wing mirrors did I discover that the heating function is activated by pressing the rear window defrost button although not having suffered any frost yet I've been unable to validate this.
Can someone kindly reassure me that I'm not going senile and that in fact there is no mention of this in the UK manual version (have also checked the German version by the way), but if it is mentioned, please indicate the page. Thanks.

Can't confirm what the manual says (wouldn't be surprised if it's there, but life's too short...), but you are correct that the mirror elements work in tandem with the rear screen heater.

That's good to know but bizarre ... I noticed they weren't clearing the other day,  but my missus stated categorically they worked for her. She used the rear defrost while I hadn't.  Very odd but logical if one thinks more laterally. ..

In my previous car - a Golf - the heated mirrors were operated by switching the adjustment control on the driver's armrest to the 6 o'clock position - like we would do to fold in the mirrors on the CX-5. Trouble was, there no warning light to to say the heaters were on so mine stayed on for days on one occasion (when the car was being used, obviously!). For this reason I prefer the set up on the CX-5 where they operate with the heated rear screen.

I think that's right re the Golf mirrors. Whatever the switch position was, I remember thinking there was no warning light to say they were on. Anyway...I like the CX-5 set-up better!

Ditto to that

My Skoda Yeti was the same. BUT at least they folded when you kept your finger on the keyfob and light up at night time instead of paying for the optional extra for them just to fold.

With the X1 folding mirrors are an extra!!

I've now put mine to the 0 position. Good that they've not burned out yet ?

Most screen heaters time out after around 15 mins.

Before I embarrass myself at the dealer, does the rear windscreen washer only work when the rear demister is on. I've tried to wash the screen on the go.... the wiper works but no water. Might be a fuse or another Mazda quirk ?

Rear washer works of a stalk.
It uses the same water reservoir as the front.

Thanks. I've got a fault then. I've tried the stalk in every direction but nothing happens. Can't even hear the motor trying to work. Minor but it's going in next week anyway to have the steel boot protector plate fitted. The clear foils were too difficult to fit with no bubbles so the dealer has agreed to fit the plate at no cost instead.
