making a back up SD card
« on: November 21, 2015, 12:12:11 pm »
Applies to a 2015 model.
I always like to have a spare SD card or DVD having once had a DVD sat nav go wrong.

Anyway I appear to have copied one now although it hasn't yet been road tested.

First of backup the original card to tool box, I had no update option as I've not yet done 60miles.
Next insert a new card, I bought a class 10 but the original looks to be only class 4.

Format the card in fat32, remove and insert the card into the cars nav, power up and leave it for a couple of minutes. Power off.
Remove sd card and use restore in the toolbox.
Don't worry if the toolbox appears not to see the card.

Unfortunately I spoke too soon.
When I tried it later no maps where showing, gps cursor was there but no map.  :(

The license folder appears to be different to the original, its giving me headache so I've packed it in for a while.
I've emailed Mazda asking them how its done, or if I can do it.

At the moment the original isn't working either just showing the compass, but it did this before when the first copy attempt didn't work via explorer, so I expect it to start working again later. Hopefully.

As a update to my own posts.

I did manage to copy a spare SD card, but after the 63 miles, so the spare only works with my car.
To explain: After 63 miles the nav card  will only work in the car its been used in, from what I've read it uses the cars reg number.

Using the original card back it up using  "Mazda tool box".
Then copy to the new card (after first formatting using fat 32), again in "Mazda tool box" by using the "restore"

With the original card back it up mazda tool box, then use restore to new card after formatting uses fat 32?.

I'm sorry, I'm having trouble interpreting what you are saying.  Could you re read what you have written and make it a little clearer.

What does 63 miles have to do with it ?

I know what fat 32 is so you don't need to explain that, but the above sentences do not make grammatical sense.
