Engine warning light.
« on: January 17, 2016, 04:02:09 pm »
Hi, just been out in my CX5 and the warning light Engine Inspection Required has come on. Has anyone got any ideas what the problem might be. It's very cold today and there was some misty smoke from exhausts when i stopped which I haven't noticed before. Thanks for any info.

Hi, Thanks for reply. I've checked oil level and it is high, half way between the high dot and the X. Have you any suggestions? Thanks.

What sort of mileage are you doing (Daily/Monthly)  Have you experienced a DPF regen yet ?

It would probably be worth your while doing a bit of reading/watching on how the DPF works.

Here would be a good place to start   http://mazdacx5forums.co.uk/index.php?topic=250.msg1347#msg1347

If you are only doing short runs, then I would suggest that a diesel with a DPF might not be you best option.

Have a read through the link above and see if you can relate to any of the messages left there. Maybe you will find your ultimate solution.

You need an oil change due to oil dilution probably, but you need the dealer to check the car, i wouldn't drive it until you have spoken to them.
Usually it only get serious if the oil level is near the X, so the engine light may be another fault.

But i do know at least two CT forum members have had the issue you describe.

Hi, Thought I'd drive to Mazda dealer as it's only about 5 miles away. The Engine inspection warning light was on all the way. I waited about 15 mins at dealers and a technician came out to look at car. I started it up and no warning light came on. Technician said either book it in for diagnostic check or wait to see if warning light returned. Driven home and no warning light yet. Seems strange to me. Anyone got any suggestions please? Thanks.

Didn't he check the oil level while you as there?
I'm not very impressed with any Mazda garage i've been to, and that's four different ones i've used.

For one thing they seem incapable of performing an oil change with out over filling, even my NEW car was over the full mark on delivery.

If it helps my last car was about 8mm over the full mark at first service with 7K miles on the clock, any higher and i would be asking for a free oil change. That level is a cold oil level,( ideally it should be warm.)

Last week had engine management warning light came on. Phoned local dealer who said bring it in. Went in and car was in workshop for about 45 mins then engineer came out and said "Fixed now, there was an update to the ECM which should cure the problem" Engine worked perfectly plus i-stop started working again. 2 days later Bluetooth stopped connecting to iPhone 6!!
