Runaway Cruise control
« on: August 02, 2016, 07:51:06 am »
I have now experienced three occasions where the cruise control, when set at approx. 55mph, has lost control when going uphill. Twice in France with the caravan on the back and again this Sunday when solo. Fuel has been increase exceeding 60mph – when I realise is running away with itself and press the cancel button.  This has only happened uphill fortunately!
As with all these things it is a waste of time taking it to the dealer – they will find nothing

Has anybody else noticed this?

Can't say that I have - sorry. Have now towed the caravan on two occasions, first time a round trip of 400km and the second time a round trip of over 2000km with CC on for well over half the time. In fact, and I recall having said this once before, the Mazda CC is so much better than that fitted to my earlier VW Touran where CC had absolutely no effect when going downhill with the car in fact going faster and faster necessitating extensive use of the brakes and which was something the dealer said was normal.  :-\ :-\ :-\

It sounds like you was in the wrong gear for the gradient?

Down hill the crude Mazda system does not use the brakes in CC, so speed can increase, even the auto seems to not want to use engine braking at high revs, I often use manual to override it, both solo and towing.

I should also mention that the manual states something like "don't use CC in hilly terrain" or I could have confused that with the Nissan system (cruder than the Mazda CC), but there are a few restrictions to using CC,heavy rain for example.

90% certain you will have been in too high a gear - never had this issue and tow regularly

Yes - uphill and the last time it happened I was not towing and I don’t believe I was in the wrong gear!

I've recently read a thread about a CRV doing the samething car running away on CC!
I would post a link but they are not allowed.
