Windscreen

One small "tink" was all I heard yesterday on the M1. Nothing visible, but this morning a running crack appeared bottom left and is slowly making its way up and across the screen. Damnit!!!

Autoglass coming to sort it Wednesday (hope they do a better job than they did on my wife's Regenade, but that's another story...). Interestingly, I'll also have to take it to the dealer to get the front camera systems re-calibrated - didn't know that would be required. Fortunately, it was booked in on Friday anyway, so that was a happy coincidence.

Sorry to hear that Al...Autoglass did a good job of my replacement screen a while back so hopefully they'll sort you out. Tiresome though isn't it.

I've had 2 broken screens in the last year, both tiny "tinks" at low speeds, which created a split in the screen which lengthened overnight, I must say I'm not overly impressed by the quality of Mazda screens..?

A fortnight after my last screen was fitted, yet another low speed "tink", which put a big chip in the screen, and which I managed to get repaired the next day for £10 by Autoglass.

A word of warning Al, I'll bet Autoglass bring the wrong screen for your CX5 on Wednesday, they did on my first replacement, twice in fact, which was very annoying, but at least I did get 2 x £25 rebates against the £75 excess charge..!

I had my windscreen changed by Autoglass a few months ago too after a 'tink' and they were very efficient and bought the correct windscreen with them first time! They did call beforehand to ask whether my car had the front camera (it doesn't) so just the screen change was needed.
It might be wishful thinking but I'm sure the new windscreen is of a better quality as there seems to be less road noise from the front at speed with the new screen!

I wouldn't normally get involved in an issue like this, but I have to say. Mazda don't make the windscreens.... or in fact any of the glass on their cars.

Ah right, OK, I understand ...so that absolves them completely of any responsibility when fitting pretty sub-standard glass in their motors, just blame their suppliers, why don't more manufacturers think of that one..?

Grrr....

Just spend a happy BH weekend on some very twisty Welsh roads to the accompaniment of glass chunks sliding from side to side in the air vents.

Also, FYI, the dealer quoted £130+VAT to re-calibrate the camera system  Had queried with the insurance company how that is reclaimed (dealer reckoned it should be), however it turned out that I didn't get charged for it as the BSM control module was being replaced anyway under warranty and re-calibration is required for that. Despite that the BSM failure warning reappeared at the weekend...

"Glass chunks", how come..?

Toughened screens that break into chunks went out with the Ark, a modern laminated screen should be lifted out whole with no glass breakage, surely..?

I didn't bother with the re-calibration of the camera, not even sure whether it's required, it works now just as it always has done, i.e. comes on now and again with a horrible ABS type sound when you are approaching a roundabout or junction at low speed, in complete control of the car and in no danger of hitting anybody or anything, a completely useless gimmick, IMHO.

Problem sorted...
It wasn't glass at all. Seems that the original windscreens have locating pegs on for the automated assembly. Replacement screens don't have or need them. When the original one comes out, the peg can break. Seems one got missed and was actually sliding around in the front of the roof lining!
