Space saver

Another spare wheel question peeps. My CX-5 has 19" wheels, my question is what size space saver wheel do i need, and what size tyre do I need to put on it. I'm presuming I can use the 17" space saver with larger profile tyre. Many Thanks in advance

I got a a spare wheel 135/90R17. My wheels are 225/55/19.
Given the difference in the wheel size, the profile can't be the same as is bigger to make up for the rim delta

I bought the official Mazda spare kit for my CX-5 which had 19 inch wheels. It came with a 16 inch wheel and a 145/90/16 tyre. I queried it with the supplier (SG Petch) as I had been expecting to receive a 17 wheel and they told me that some of the official spares had been 17 inch but due to tyre sourcing issues, they had changed to 16 inch.

A 185/80/17 has a virtually identical rolling radius to the standard 19 inch wheel and tyre. The 145/90/16 is about 30mm smaller on the radius. It was OK the one time I had to use it for a few miles though (on the rear)

I bought a space saver from this company in Manchester. It’s nearly the same size as my 19s or at least a damn site closer than the genuine Mazda wheel. I’ve got a 5% discount going via the Facebook CX-5 owners club but feel free to use it - club5. It comes out just over £132 delivered.

Thanks to you also Anchorman. General opinion is that the repair kit is pretty useless, so I want peace of mind knowing I won't be stranded somewhere with a flat tyre. They really need to start putting a spare wheel back into new cars.

I don’t know if the repair kit is useless, it might work a treat but I’ve never tried it. I often start work at 4am and don’t want to be experimenting with it at 3.30 in the dark.

The repair kit does have a value to get you to a place of safety.
As I have commented previously I would not like to have to use it on the hard shoulder on a wet night on the M6.
The compressor itself is valuable and can be used for all your beach inflatables and bikes as well!

Thanks for the link, I've picked up one of these spare wheels now. Any ideas where I can get the foam surround? I don't fancy cutting the one that came with the car!

Yes, the ones from Mazda are quite cheap.  I paid about £30 including VAT for a pair for my 17.

I bought the spare wheel kit after a puncture just weeks after buying my CX5.
I don't see it mentioned, but at the time new cars were coming without a jack and tools to remove the wheels, so these also had to be bought, although I did have the tools already with my car.
Don't forget that one reason the spare is not supplied as standard is its weight. This is enough to increase the fuel consumption slightly.

The picture shows the Spacesaver fitted to the front. I thought Spacesaver wheels didn’t fit over the calliper on the fronts, that’s why there is an instruction the Spacesaver’s are only to be used on the rear axle!?
