For what it's worth, I've always used Brodit mounting brackets for cars for about the last 10 years (inc all our company cars). All purpose made for specific vehicles, they have a variety of positions for each then you select the device holder to fit that. very good quality, the CX5 ones are here:-

Many thanks Deeps and BigAl for the replies.

The Brodit looks reassuringly robust and reviews are good, only downside for me is the lack of portability. I occasionally hire cars for work and currently just swap over my windscreen mount.

The CD slot mount seems to fit the bill for me, I like the 3 device mount positions. Decided to give that a go and ordered from what appears to be the same bloke at www.cdslotmount.com
