Another "so far so good story" having had the system updated yesterday although I still cannot get the car to connect to my iphone, the dealer did say it might have to come back if I want it to work. Am I just missing out on live traffic updates or anything else please?

Mines had the update done today.

I was told by the dealer not to use the top USB port as that's the one they use for doing the updates and only use the bottom one. As it conflicts with the system and that's why we have these issues

Sounds daft to me ????

After having the V56 update done. My iStop doesn't work anymore ????

So it will have to go back to the dealers again to get that sorted out ????

Other things can prevent istop from working, are you sure its actually because of the new software.

If the engine has recently climbed a steep hill or been on the motorway Istop will not work to protect the turbo. A low battery voltage is one of the others.

They said its for Mazda use. They also said it will play our music mp3s but it would conflict with the stereos software and it would keep playing the first track ever time we start the engine.

What a load of codswalop

Mine would play the same track every time I got in the car, sometimes it would carry on from where it left off. Sometimes the sound would go completely and I would after turn the volume back up again,
Other times it would say that I'd no sat nav and I would end up with just a compass.
Also it reset itself and I would after input my balance, treble, fade etc all over again

Let's hope the V56 works. Just got to get the iStop to work now

Well it always worked before it went in for the V56 update. I travelled over 100 miles yesterday and it never stopped once. The information screen just read NOT READY all day. My engine and a/c icon changed blue but not the battery one.
So it's back to the dealer once again. Grrrrrr

Sounds like the new screen has more information than mine, as far as I know my car gives no information about istop?

I'm not a big fan anyway, dam thing can turn the car off only to restart a minute later, or just doesn't work for a number of reasons.
Does anyone have a list of the conditions for it to work, or not work?

Thankfully for the first time in a long time the car didn't rev its rocks off on start up yesterday, it was below 14 degrees.
Ironically it says in the manual do not rev a cold engine as it could damage the turbo, so they think over 14 isn't cold?

I always thought a cold engine required the oil to circulate before revving. Not just the turbo.

My usb is one of those that resumes at the start every time, I'm hoping that is cured in the new car.

Mazda CX-5 2016 model

Chapter 4 page 12 tells you what's what that can be on or off for the iStop to work.

Chapter 4 page 115 is the screen that I've been watching for 100 miles in city rush hour traffic

Thanks DH.
I don't have that screen on the old car as for as I know.
I love screens that show information, having said that if I was developing a maintenance or information screen, which was part of my job before retiring, then I would put all those conditions on the screen, with either a tick box or colour change to indicate which conditions are not met.

I now remember reading the conditions list a couple of years ago, I do wish we had a European manual only as I find the two  US? and Europe? being mixed together very confusing.

Does our version have the I-eloop system ?

Well, the replacement wi-fi module was fitted on Thursday, I collected it Friday morning. I hooked up the phone wi-fi hotspot to the car and left the display open so I could see that it was still connected when driving back. It now briefly picks up everything that it passes (including some very imaginatively named wi-fi networks...) whilst staying connected to the phone. That is until the phone hotspot sees no activity and turns itself off. Have now found how to remove that timeout from the phone so all's good in that respect. It also now is retaining the password, which wasn't previously happening. That still leaves a couple of issues though.

1)Because the system worked briefly when first delivered, the 6 week trial of live services has expired. I've contacted Mazda direct at the dealer's suggestion to see if that can be re-instated and am awaiting a response.
2)I could be wrong, but I don't think it automatically switches between known networks if one is unavailable
3)Fundamentally, I think Mazda have taken a backward step with this system. The 2012 onward model had GSM built in with the TomTom system, so you switched it on and the "Live" system just worked, providing you had a subscription (which I did; it worked well and was worth the money). The 2015 model requires that you:-
  • have a phone with you in the car
  • that the phone be capable of creating a wi-fi hotspot
  • you have to remember to turn the hotspot on as you can't leave it on all the time without shutting your phone's wi-fi off
  • you have to remember to have this all done and in place before you set off as it's too dangerous to be flicking between that many menus when driving
  • as before, you have to have a subscription

So why make it so complicated?

So why make it so complicated?

I suppose the software has to be engineered to cope with all possibilities world wide with every make of phone each with it's own version of it's manufacturers software.

With every type of WiFi signal worldwide.

and every mobile network provider.

I would imagine it's a software developers nightmare.

Perhaps should have qualified that last sentence by saying "compared to the TomTom system..."

Good news is that Mazda called me back this afternoon and have offered to refund one years worth of the live subscription for the inconvenience. I only asked for the 60 day trial restored, so that's a result.

I had no end of problems with the live services not connecting, along with a lot of other people. Later cured by a TT update.

Mazda also gave me one years free services, I've found Mazda CS very good, not like some people.

The new traffic sounds worse than the TT live.
I'll have to look at my HTC desire to see if the hotspot can be permanently on?

Well, it's not over 'til the fat lady sings..

Now I have three wifi networks stored in the system, Phone hotspot, home wifi and work wifi. If it is switched away from the phone to one of the others then driven away, it picks up the phone connection but doesn't do the final step of connecting. You have to go all the way through the menus and reenter the password again! That's two digits, three capital letters and eight more digits... :o Whilst driving (allegedly)...

And, even more of an oddity, this morning whilst negotiating the Staples Corner roundabout on the North Circular, I became aware of a strange voice. It was a brief message, in a womans voice saying "please check the SD card" repeatedly, coming from a small tinny speaker which sounds like it's in the base of the centre console somewhere. Would she shut up? Would she bo***cks! She carried on for the next twenty minutes, despite pulling out the SD card, rebooting the system and attempting anything else we could think of whilst driving. Only finally stopping and turning everything off eventually stopped it. Fortunately, I was able to call the dealer whilst this was happening and let him listen over the phone, otherwise I suspect he wouldn't have believed me!
